Annual Conference 2005
Steven Esom, Managing Director of Waitrose, headed an impressive list of
speakers at the Federation of Bakers 5th Annual Conference held on 11th May.
Speakers
included Esom; Ed Mayo, Chief Executive of the National Consumer Council;
John
Noble, Director of British Brands Group and Peter Knight, President of the
National Association of British & Irish Millers. In his keynote address,
Esom
highlighted that consumers were becoming too confused by the launch of
different
labelling systems in different outlets. He suggested that retailers and
manufacturers build on the use of Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA) rather than
continue to
introduce new systems which are only adding to consumer confusion. This
year's
conference also featured a thought-provoking panel debate session with
panellists
including Esom, Gill Fine of the FSA and Sylvia Jay of the FDF, plus
others
being
quizzed on the need for innovation, health issues and consumer
choice.
Andrew Brown, Interim Director of the Federation of Bakers says: “We have
already had lots of extremely positive feedback from delegates so we would like
to
thank all those involved, including the speakers, sponsors and the delegates
for
contributing to this success and we look forward to 10th May 2006 when we
will
be holding next year's conference.” Copies of the speeches & transcripts
are
